After 50, I blamed my tummy for how every dress looked. It was never my body. It was the cut.

It was 38 degrees out west in Parramatta, the family was arriving at one, and I was standing in front of the mirror in my third outfit of the morning.
You know the feeling. The dress that looked lovely on the hanger now pulled across my middle. Every roll showed. So off it came, and on went the same loose black thing I'd worn to the last four family lunches, with a cardigan over the top. In January. In Sydney.

We were getting ready for my nephew's wedding down at Bowral, and I was complaining again. She looked at the pile of dresses on the bed and said:
"It's not your tummy. Your dresses are either stuck to you or hanging off you."
And she was right. Almost every dress I owned did one of two things. Either the fabric was thin and stretchy and clung to every curve, or it was so big and shapeless that it hung off me like a tent.
One showed everything. The other hid me completely. Neither was flattering.
